Telemedicine Group Adds Former Texas Hospital Leader to Board of Directors
GARY BROCK BRINGS DECADES OF EXECUTIVE LEADERSHIP AND PHYSICIAN RELATIONS EXPERTISE
July 27, 2020 (DALLAS, Texas) – Gary Brock, former senior executive with Baylor Scott & White Health, has joined the board of directors of Access Physicians, a Dallas-based, physician-led telemedicine company specializing in high-acuity inpatient telemedicine.
“Access Physicians has been delivering the gold standard of inpatient telemedicine for nearly a decade,” said Chris Gallagher, M.D., CEO, Access Physicians. “With Gary joining our board, we ensure that we are positioned for continued growth while maintaining our high standards of clinical excellence and compassionate care.”
Brock served Baylor Scott & White Health for more than 30 years in numerous leadership roles, including president of Baylor Medical Center-Garland, senior vice president of managed care and physician network development for Baylor Health Care System prior to its 2013 merger with Scott & White Healthcare, and BHCS executive vice president. He served as chief operating officer of Baylor Health Care System from 2005 to 2014. From 1994 to 2013, he was also president of HealthTexas Provider Network, BSWH’s 501(a) physician organization with a network of primary care and specialty physicians.
Under his leadership, BSWH created one of the largest, most respected accountable care organizations in Texas and one of the top performing ACOs in the nation, ensuring the training of new generations of physicians in quality standards of care.
“I am excited to serve Access Physicians in this new capacity and appreciate the opportunity to be an operational part of supporting its growth,” said Brock. “Telemedicine is an art and science, and while it is quickly becoming the new normal of health care delivery, Access Physicians is committed to ensuring that it is done well. Doing it well means both prioritizing clinical excellence and the patient experience.”
As pioneers in physician-led telemedicine, Access Physicians has experienced exponential growth since its founding in 2011. Its nationwide physician network of more than 600 board-certified and board-eligible specialists and subspecialists have cared for more than 1.6 million high-acuity patients in 180 hospitals in 20 states. In November 2019, Access Physicians secured a $9.3 million Series A funding round with Health Enterprise Partners, positioning the organization for nationwide growth and to meet unprecedented demand from hospitals for telemedicine following the outbreak of COVID-19 in the U.S.
“I’m delighted Gary is joining the Access Physicians board,” said David Tamburri, managing partner, Health Enterprise Partners, and Access Physicians board member. “His leadership experience as a pioneer in hospital-physician collaboration has resulted in Baylor Scott & White Health’s long-standing recognition as a leading integrated provider focused foremost on delivering excellent patient care. Gary has an incredible track record, and his contributions will enable Access Physicians to further its mission of increasing access to health care and strengthening hospitals’ financial resilience.”
